3 Highlights from Decorex 2018

Decorex is an exquisite, imaginative design begins when stories have the space they need to flourish. Since 1978, renowned interior designers, artists, and creative minds have gathered at the show to curate theirs. Serendipitous moments and chance encounter that might just lead to enduring partnerships happen at Decorex. So today Inspiration brings to you 3 Highlights from Decorex 2018.

1. Be OPEN Sound Portal

Inspired by the concept of sound as the ‘next frontier of design’, the BE OPEN Sound Portal,  is a big black rubberized ring, placed in the middle of Trafalgar Square.

Visitors are invited to step inside the installation, to listen to ‘finely-tuned audio technologies’ which allow you to experience a very different environment created by sound alone. The portal will be open from 8.30am to 10 pm from 19 to 23 September, and admission is free.

2. Mimicry Charis by Nendo

Once again, the V&A will be at the heart of the festival’s activities. The museum will host Japanese design studio Nendo’s Mimicry Chairs installation, including the entrance, galleries, staircases, and corridors.

Each chair will be modified so that it mimics the environment in which it sits – hence the name – with chairs appearing to ‘climb’ the stairs, and suspended in the entrance atrium.

3. Prism by Keiichi Matsuda

Last but definitely not least, our final pick is Keiichi Matsuda’s groundbreaking installation Prism, commissioned by champagne brand Veuve Clicquot, which will also be on display at the V&A.

The ambitious piece is made up of screens displaying live data taken from London’s ‘city dashboard, suspended in the V&A’s uppermost cupola.
